في مجموعته القصصية "ما تجلى في المقدمة" يمارس القاص محمد الكريم نوعاً من التجريب القائم على الإبتكار في الفكرة أو السيمياء الذهنية للحدث، الهدف منه إنتاج صور تقوم على استشراق عوالم قصصية جديدة تنهض على مبدأ (علمي) ، يتمظهر هذا الكلام أكثر في القصة المعنونة "ذبابة ورجل"، التي تقوم على فكرة تطوير قدرات الذبابة على نقل المعلومات من الشخص الذي نريد أن نأخذ منه، معلومات عن طريق حقن مادة في دم شخص آخر يجمع المعلومات فتنقلها الذبابة بطريقة سهلة جداً، "وهو تطوير لنظام إستخباراتي خدمة للسيد الرئيس والوطن أرواحنا له الفداء ...".
أما القصة المعنونة بـ "ما تجلى في العتمة" فتحيل إلى (علم النفس) حيث تقوم فكرة القصة على اختبار "كاذب محترف" من قبل مجموعة من الطلبة الذين هم بطور كتابة مسرحيات كمشروع تخرّج في كلية الفنون المسرحية كانوا يبحثون عن الجانب النفسي وكسب القوال عقب التعذيب الذي يتلقاه المعتقلون في السجون هم "كتبوا مسرحيات وأنا أتألم، اعتذروا" وبهذا الإشتغال السردي المبتكر تمكّن الكاتب من مقاربة الواقع وإعادة صياغته فنياً بواسطة القصة القصيرة.
يضم الكتاب قصصاً قصيرة وقصيرة جداً جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "ذبابة ورجل" ، "قرار" ، "تحت نصب الحرية" ، "وضاع الحلم" ، "ما تجلى في العتمة" ، "خيانة" ، "إنكسار" ، "قبلة في مدينة تحتشد بالقلق" ، "حوار" (...) وعناوين أخرى.
