لا يخفى على أهل العلم أن علم العقائد الذي هو مجموع الأمور التي يجب أن يدين المرء بها ويؤمن بها إيماناً لا شائبة فيه قد أنشى لبيان هذه العقائد وإقامة البراهين اليقينية على صدقها وصحتها.
وقد هيَّأ الله تعالى لهذا العلم رجالاً ذادوا به عن حياض الدين، وردوا به جهل الجاهلين، وكان من بين هؤلاء العلماء الجهابذة الإمام سعد الدين مسعود بن عمر التفتازاني الذي أعطى من العلم حظّاً وافراً تجمل بتأليفه كتابين في علم الكلام هما: شرح العقائد النسفية، وشرح المقاصد نالا من العناية والدراسة والتحقيق والتعليق ما لم ينله غيرهما.
وكان الإمام البقاعي أحد أولئك الذين عملوا على عناية كتاب "النكت والفوائد"، ولأهمية هذا الكتاب عمل على دراسته وتحقيقه الأستاذ "إحسان الدوري"، وقد اشتمل هذا الكتاب على قسمين كان القسم الأول منهما في دراسة المؤلِّف والمؤلَّف، واشتمل على فصلين تضمن الفصل الأول منهما نشأة البقاعي وحياته العلمية والعملية.
أما الفصل الثاني فكان في دراسة كتاب البقاعي "النكت والفوائد على شرح العقائد"، وقد عمل فهارس شاملة لمسائل متنوعة لتعين الباحثين والدارسين في كتابة موضوعات تظهر جانباً آخر من الجوانب العلمية التي أودعها هذا الإمام في كتابه النافع هذا، وكانت الفهارس في الآيات القرآنية الكريمة، والأحاديث النبوية الشريفة التي تجاوزت الخمسمائة حديث، ثم فهارس الآثار، فالأعلام، فالأماكن، ثم فهارس الجماعات والقبائل وأصحاب المذاهب، وفهارس الأشعار، ثم فهارس الكتب الواردة في النص، وأخيراً فهارس الفوائد، وهذا ما تضمنه القسم الثاني.
