ولأهمية هذا الكتاب عمد إلى تحقيقه الأستاذ خالد مصطفى طرطوسي بالإستناد إلى نسخ مخطوطة من بينها السيرة لإبن هشام ونسخ أخرى لمصطفى السقا - إبراهيم الأبياري - عبد الحفيظ سلبي ، وهي نسخ شرحها هؤلاء الأساتذة ومتوافرة في طبعاتها في كل العالم الإسلامي ... إلى ذلك ، تم للمحقق طرطوسي العمل على الضبط الصرفي والنحوي والإملائي للنص ، ووضع علامات الترقيم ، وشرح الغريب من الألفاظ ، والتعريف بالأعلام الواردة في الكتاب ، وتخريج النصوص الحديثية الواردة في السيرة مستنداً إلى الصحيحين والذهبي والترمذي وأحمد وابن حجر والهيثمي والمنذري والمناوي وغيرهم .
وعليه اشتمل الكتاب على مقدمة ودراسة موجزة لنشوء علم السيرة المطهرة ، ودراسة حول : سيرة إبن إسحاق عبر التاريخ ، والقول بحاجتنا إلى موسوعة في السيرة ، وترجمة لإبن إسحاق وإبن هشام والسهيلي وأبي ذر الخشفي ، وملحق بالمراجع والمصادر المعتمدة في التحقيق .
