إن مشروع نشر "الفلاحة النبطية" يرجع إلى منتصف القرن الماضي. وقد امتد به الزمن إلى الآن حيث قام توفيق فهد بتحقيقه، يظهر قسم منه في هذا المجلد الذي يختم بعدة فهارس، تسهيلاً لاستعماله. وقد وجد كتاب الفلاحة هذا منسوباً إلى ثلاثة من حكماء السدّانيين القدماء، ذكروا أن أحدهم ابتدأه، وأن الثاني أضاف إلى ذلك المبتدأ شيئاً آخر، وأن الثالث تمّمه وكان مكتوباً بالسريانية القديمة. نقله إلى العربية أبو بكر أحمد بن علي بن قيس الكسداني الملقب بابن وحشية وقد نقله بتمامه وكماله لاستحسانه له، ولعظيم ما رأى من فائدته وجميل موقعه في إفلاح الأرض وعلاج الشجر وزكا الثمار وتجويدها، وزكا الزروع، والكلام عن خواص الأشياء وخواص البلدان والأزمنة ومواقع أفعال فصول الأزمنة واختلاف طباع الأهوية، وعجيب أفعالها وتراكيب الشجر وغروسها وإفلاحها، ودفع الآفات عنها، واستخراج منافع المنابت والحشائش والمداواة بها، ودفع العاهات عن أبدان الحيوانات ودفع آفات الشجر والمنابت بعضها ببعض، وطرائف ما ركبوا من الأشياء حتى حدث عنها أشياء هي غيرها، إما قريبة منها أو بعيدة عنها.
