ما من شك في أن التمارين والمسائل هي خير وسيلة لاستيعاب المعلومات النظرية وتثبيتها في ذهن الطالب وتوضيح ما كان منها مبهماً وغامضاً. وما المسائل الفيزيائية إلا تجارب مكتوبة، فهي وللتجارب العملية تكمل إذن المعلومات النظرية ولا غنى للطالب عنها. وإذا كانت المكتبة العربية قد حظيت ببعض الكتب الفيزيائية الجامعية النظرية، فإنها خلت من أي كتاب في المسائل الفيزيائية المحلولة في المستوى الجامعي. وقد كان ظهور كتاب في "الفيزياء الحديثة للجامعات" للمؤلف "سيرز وزيمانسكي" حافزاً لبعض أساتذة الفيزياء في جامعة دمشق لأن يدعموا هذا الكتاب بكتاب يتضمن عدداً كافياً من المسائل المحلولة، واستقر رأيهم على أن يكون ذلك في ثلاثة أجزاء تقابل أجزاء الكتاب النظري الثلاثة في الميكانيك والصوت، وفي الحرارة والكهرباء وفي الضوء والفيزياء الحديثة.
ويأتي الجزء الأول من هذه السلسلة في أبحاث الميكانيك والصوت، وقد قسم هذا الجزء إلى سبعة عشر فصلاً يحوي آخرها على مسائل عامة في حين تحوي الفصول الأخرى على بضع مسائل محلولة على كل فصل. أما الجزء الثاني من السلسلة فيتناول أبحاث الضوء والفيزياء الحديثة. وجاء الجزء الثالث والأخير من كتاب "مسائل محلولة في الفيزياء لطلاب السنوات الجامعية الأولى، ليعالج بحوث الحرارة والكهرباء ويكمل الجزأين اللذين سبقاه إلى الظهور.
