حاول المؤلـف عبـر هذه الدراسة تغطية الفترة من عام 1936م حتى عام 1956م من تاريخ حضرموت عامة والسلطنة القعيطية خاصـة وهي فترة مليئة بالأحداث والتطورات وتعتبـر أخصـب فتـرة تاريخيـة على الاطــلاق فهي الانطـلاقة الحقيقية للنهضة الحضرمية.
كما تهدف الدراسة إلى تسليط الأضواء على الأعمال التي قام بها السلطان صالح بن غالب القعيطي بوجـه الخصوص والتي أسهمت في صنع تلك النهضـة وتحقيقها.. تنقسم الدراسة إلى أربعة فصول:
أولا: الخلفية العامة للوضع الجغرافي في حضرموت من حيث التسمية والموقع والحدود والأقسام الطبيعية ما تناول هذا الفصل موجزا تاريخيا عن قيام السلطنة القعيطية.
ثانيا: الأوضاع السياسية والعسكرية في عهد السلطان صالح بـدءً من التدخـل البريطاني وأخيرا الحديث عن قضايا الحدود.
ثالثا: الأوضاع الثقافية وأطرها العامة ولا سيما قضايا التعليم والإعلام التي لقيـت اهتماما كبيـرا في هذا العهد.
رابعا: تناول المؤلف في هذا الفصل الحياة الاجتماعية والاقتصادية والمراتبيــة في حضرموت كما ناقش الأوضـاع الصحيـة العام.
