نيرنج، نافذة مفتوحة على عوالم ألف ليلة وليلة ونفحة ممّا سكتت عنه شهرزاد، من محلّة الكوخ ببغداد وبساتين البصرة أيّام بني العباّس إلى أرض الفايكنغ وما وراء بحر قزوين، جسر من الحكايات يتداخل فيه الخياليّ بالواقعيّ، فتُعزى الأحداث إلى السحر وتسخير الجنّ تارة وإلى فعل البشر وتدبيرهم تارة أخرى، وتعكس مرآة الخُرافة النورديّة بما فيها من تطاحن الآلهة وبطشها بالعباد صورة حُكّام بلاد الإسلام في ذاك الزمان وما هُم عليه من تناحر وإستبداد، وما خيبة ظنّ الإفرنجيّ هوسكولد، وقد حلّ ببلاد العرب هارباً من همجيّة بني قومه وفوضاهم إلاّ إقرار بهذا التطابق.
بيد أنّ في الرواية أيضاً حضوراً لقُوى الخير بدءاً من مريم وتضحيتها لأجل هوسكولد مروراً بأثيرٍ المُجتهد في فضح غيّ الطغاة وابن الهلال وصحبه من العلماء النزهاء وصولاً إلى قائم المقام المُنتصر للحقّ والمخلص له، أمّا رحى الصراع بين الفريقين فدائرة على الأرض عرضاً وبين ثنايا الكُتب أساساً، كيف لا وسرّ أسرار الرواية ليس سوى كتاب... كهذا الذي بين أيدينا.
