من أجل فهم ميسّر في المسائل الأصولية، والمطولات البحثية، يقدم الدكتور الشيخ / علي محمد بو سلمان الجبيلي كتابه (مُصطلحات أصولية) يشرح الألفاظ المصطلح عليها بين الفقهاء والأصوليين وفقاً لمنهج اتبع فيه "ملاحظة منشأ المصطلح، وملاحظة معناه من الجهة اللغوية معجمياً، أو عرفياً، أو منطقياً، أو فلسفياً متعدد الإتجاهات، أو في علم النفس الحديث، أو علم الدلالة الحديث".
وبهذا سوف يدرك القارئ لمحتوى الكتاب أن هناك مصطلحات لها وجوه متعددة، قد تكون متنافرة المحتوى أو المضمون أحياناً وإن كان يجمعها لفظٌ واحد، وقد تتقاطع معاني أخرى لتؤدي غرض معين، ولأن الأصل في اللغات أن "يكون للكل لفظ معنى واحد".
كان هذا المعجم بمثابة إعادة للنظر في الكثير من المصطلحات الوارد ذكرها في علم الأصول، وتلمس محتواها بغية فهم أكثر لمعانيها وإتجاهاتها المختلفة ثم ملاحقة أو تتبع تراكم النظرية وحياكتها، والتطبيق الأصولي عليها، والإحاطة بنواحي إستعمالات المصطلح أصولياً، ما يعني بالنسبة للمؤلف "إقامة جسر عبور، وحالة وسطية بين المصطلح المعجمي الجامد وبين تراكم النظرية، والتطبيق الأصولي".
وأخيراً أورد المؤلف نصاً أصولياً مختصراً لأحد الأصوليين قام من خلاله بتحديد معالم جملة من المصطلحات التي يستعملها الأصوليون في علم الأصول بشكل عام...
