يمثل هذا الكتاب مجموعة من البحوث المختارة التي قدمت في ندوة "إستخدام اللغة العربية في الحاسب الآلي"، التي عقدت في الكويت خلال الفترة من 14- 16 نيسان/ إبريل 1985، وقد شارك في تنظيم الندوة كل من: اللجنة الإقتصادية والإجتماعية لغرب آسيا، ومعهد الكويت للأبحاث العلمية، والصندوق العربي للإنماء الإقتصادي والإجتماعي، وساهم في التنظيم أيضاً مركز الكويت العلمي وجمعية الحاسب الآلي الكويتية.
يهدف هذا الكتاب إلى:
أ-مراجعة مختلف المجهودات المبذولة في مختلف ميادين تعريب الحاسب الآلي وتقييمها.
ب-تحديد القضايا والمشاكل المتعلقة بعملية التعريب.
ج-العمل على بلورة إطار موسع للأبحاث المطلوبة في ميدان تعريب الحاسب الآلي، وذلك من خلال وضع سلم للأولويات، والتوصية بإجراءات عملية حول القضايا الأكثر إلحاحاً، وذلك من أجل دفع عملية التعريب، وتسهيل إعتماد مختلف تطبيقات الحاسب الآلي في المجتمعات العربية.
