شكّلت اللسانيات الحدية المادة الخام التي قامت عليها مناهج ألسنية عدّة، تميز كلّ منها عن الآخر من خلال نظرته إلى اللغة، التي تعدّ أساساً في قراءة النص الأدبي. في هذه الدراسة (الأسلوبية البنية الوظيفة) تدرس الدكتورة ندى مرعشلي هوّاري النظرية الأسلوبية عند رومان ياكبسون وميشال رغاتير. وتعقد مقارنة بينهما وبين باحثين آخرين؛ فريفاتير، جعل الأسلوب في اللغة، واستبعد أن يكون التعبير في الأسلوب، وحدد مهمة الأسلوب بـ "البروز"، مصرحاً بأن كل صياغة كلامية متميزة تستوقف الإنتتباه تعد اسلوباً؛ بينما حدّد "ياكبسون" موقع الأسلوب بين الإختيار للعناصر اللغوية، وبين توزيعها داخل النص، فإذا أراد المرسل إنشاء جملة أسلوبية، فلا بد من أن يتجه إلى محورين: "محور الإختيار" و "محور التركيب". ويهدف بناء علاقة متماسكة ومتلاحمة بين عنوان هذا الكتاب ومحتواه. تركز المؤلفة على مصطلح "البعد" وغضّ النظر عمّا يوازيه من المصطلحات، مثل "الإنزياح" ، "الإنحراف" ، "الإنتهاك" ، و "العدول"، التي تناولتها الدراسات العربية والغربية، القدمية منها والحديثة، كما ركزت المؤلفة على البعد الأسلوبي للظواهر اللغوية، من خلال الوقوف على وظيفة أسلوب البُنى الصوتية، والتركيبية، والصرفية، وتحديد وظيفة كل بُنية داخل النص، كما عمدت المؤلفة إلى تقويم النصوص المدروسة في الكتاب، من خلال انتقاء القيم الأسلوبية القادرة على التأثير في القارىء، من دون تحديد نمط أسلوبي يُقاس عليه الأسلوب، كما فعل باحثون آخرون.
