علي بك حمادة، قامةٌ سياسيةٌ وعسكريةٌ ذات أثر كبير أدّتْ دوراً بارزاً في تاريخ المنطقةِ إبّانَ حقبةِ الحكمِ الشهابي وصولاً إلى عهدٍ المتصرفيّة، وأسهمتْ في فضْ الكثير من النزاعاتٍ في لبنانَ وسورية وفلسطينَ وفي حسم معارك كادت أن تؤدي إلى تعميق الفجوة بين طوائفِ لبنان بفعلِ التدخلاتِ الأجنبيةِ المغرضةِ.
كما عُرفَ بالتفرُغ أحياناً إلى إصلاح ذات البيّن بين الأفراد والعائلات، فكانَ يلينُ عطفاً وإستلطافاً ويقوى بأساً وإستنكافاً باذلاً من ماله الخاص دون منّةٍ أو حساب، شاركَ بصفِته قائداً في حربِ شبهِ جزيرة القوم التي نشبتْ بين السلطنةِ العثمانيةِ وروسيا القيصّرية، فسطر بطولات إستثنائية قلَّ مثيلُها.
من سيرته هذه، المُستخلصة من مخطوطٍ قديم نادرٍ يمكنُ إستنباط ما يفيضُ من مناقبَ هذا القائدَ الفذّ وصفاته، شغلَ الناسِ في زمنهِ ومحبطِهِ، وهو الّذي استقرَ في قصَره الشامخَ في بعقلين الذي غدا شبهُ مِتحفٍ ينبضُ بمآثرِه وينطق بسيرتِه وبسيرة من عاصَرُه من ذويه.
وللأمانةِ، فقد أبقيَّ في الكتابِ على ما يُجدي من المصطلحاتِ التي تضمّنها المخطوط، للإضفاءِ وللجماليّاتِ التّعبيّريةِ، الّتي كانت معياراً للنّبراتِ السّاميةِ المتداولة بين رجالاتِ ذلك العصرِ الغابرِ ليبقى هذا المرجعُ فوّاحاً بعِطرِ الماضي والزّمنِ الأصيلِ.
