هذا الكتاب يتناول الحديث عن أولى المواد التخصصية التي يتعرض لها طالب التصميم الجرافيكي، وهي بعنوان مقدمة في التصميم الجرافيكي، ولو سألت الغالبية العظمى من هؤلاء الطلبة عن طبيعة هذا التخصص لكانت إجاباتهم في أفضل الأحيان تلامس القشور الخارجية من هذا التخصص فعلياً.
فمن خلال نظرة سريعة لما هو حولنا في هذا الكون نجد أن هذا التخصص أصبح في كل جانب من جوانب حياتنا، فهو يتواجد في مختلف السلع والمواد الغذائية الإستهلاكية التي يتناولها الإنسان (مأكولات ومشروبات متنوعة) كما يتواجد في مختلف الإعلانات التي تسوق للسلع أو الخدمات الجديدة على شكل ما يسمى البوسترات، وعلى علب الأدوية لتوضيح اسم الدواء وتركيبته وغير ذلك من بيانات هامة.
كما يتواجد في ما نشاهده على شاشات التلفاز أو الحاسوب من خلال شبكة الإنترنت والمواقع المختلفة، وهو أيضاً يتواجد على شاشات بعض المؤسسات والشركات التي تعمل على عرض نفسها ومنح المشاهد فكرة عن طبيعة المهام التي تقوم بها أثناء ساعات الإنتظار أو من خلال لوحات كبيرة في الشوارع والطرقات، كما يتواجد عل جوانب وسائط النقل المختلفة، والملابس وغير ذلك الكثير الكثير.
