يضم هذا الكتاب شرحاً لقصيدة (علي الضباع) المسمى (الوفائد المهذبة في خلف حفص من طريق الطيبة). وقد راعى في هذا الشرح عدم الإطالة وعدم التقصير، فجعل شرحها لا هو بالطويل اممل، ولا بالقليل المخل، وقد قسم إلى (كليات) و(جزئيات)، أما الكليات فهي الأصول التي قرأ بها حفص من طريق الطيبة من تكبير أو مدود أو غنة أو سكت، ويجب على كل من يريد أن يتعلم هذا النفع العظيم أن لا يبتدأ بالجزئيات وهو لم يعقل الكليات حتى يتم له الفهم المرجو.
ثم تكلم عن الجزئيات (الفرشيات) أي الكلمات التي فرشت في القرءان، وشرح ما لها من وجوه على الأوجه الجائزة. وجعل في آخر الكتاب جدولاً يبين كل ما ذكر. وجعل بعد كل بحث خلاصة لما تم ذكره أثناء الشرح.
