إن سيرة الرسول محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم أكمل السير كما كانت أجملها وهي مؤسسة على نصوص قرآنية، ووثائق تاريخية ووثائق من الخلق والخُلُق، وتفاصيل في العادات والعبارات والأخلاق والعاملات. وقد اهتم بها العلماء أشدّ الاهتمام، باعتبارها النموذج الذي يحتذى والمثال الذي يقتدى، فكانت معرفة سيرته مطلوبة لتتبع. وإن المصادر التي أخذت عنها سيرة النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وهديه تنحصر في: القرآن الكريم، كتب الحديث والسنة، كتب دلائل النبوية، كتب الشمائل، كتب المغازي وكتب السيرة، هذه مصادر السيرة القديمة، ثم ألف المتأخرون كتباً في السيرة اندمجت وذابت فيها كتب المتقدمين.
وهذا الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا (الشفا بتعريف حقوق سيدنا المصطفى) للقاضي "أبي الفضل عياض بن موسى اليحصبي" ينتمي إلى المصدر الرابع من هذه المصادر، وهو من خير الكتب التي عرّفت بحقوق المصطفى صلى الله عليه وسلم، فقد أحاط الكتاب بصفات الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم، وما يجب له من حقوق، وقد اعتمد المؤلف في ذلك كله على الآيات القرآنية والأحاديث النبوية، يؤيد بها رأيه واستدل بآراء المفسرين والمحدثين والفقهاء وفيما جاء به.
