إن هذا الكتاب - الإقناع في مسائل الإجماع - جليل في مضمونه، جامع فريد في بابه، مُحكم في بنائه ومنهجه، عزَّ مثاله، وصعب على الدارسين والباحثين منذ قرون مناله، حتى يسَّره الله تعالى وأذن بذلك، فله الحمد والمنَّة.
أما مضمونه، فقد جمع من المسائل التي أجمع عليها علماء الإسلام - أو كادوا - في العقائد والعبادات والمعاملات، والأخلاق والآداب، الشيء الكثير.
وللإجماع مكانته العظيمة في الدين، وتأثيره الكبير في الحياة، فقواطع الأدلة، وقواعد أصول هذه الملة - الإسلامية الحنيفية - هي: الكتاب العزيز الذي لا يأتيه الباطل من بين يديه ولا من خلفه، وصحيح السنّة النبوية الشريفة، وإجماع العلماء أولي النُهي والألباب، وما عدا ذلك من القياس وغيره فتابع لها مبني عليها.
وقد نوَّه أئمة المسلمين من السلف الصالح بمكانة الإجماع ومحله من الفقه والتشريع، قال أبو إسماعيل الكوفي: سألت عطاء بن أبي رباح عن شيء فأجابني، فقلت: عمّن ذا؟ قال: ما اجتمعت عليه الأمة أقوى عندنا من الإسناد.
