إن "صحيح الإمام مسلم بن الحجاج القشيري" رحمه الله تعالى من الكتب التي أصبحت عماد علوم الدين، ومصدرها الموثوق الذي لا يستغني عنه طالب من طلاّب العلم.
وقد تناول علماء الأمة هذا الكتاب بالرواية والدراسة والشرح والتخريج، حيث أن لكل واحد منها ميزات وخصائص لا تنكر، وإنّ العلاّمة المحدث الداعية الكبير الشيخ شبّير أحمد العثماني من أجلّة علماء الهند، شرع في تأليف شرح مبسوط لـــ"صحيح مسلم" يملأ هذا الفراغ بالقدر المستطاع في هذه العصور الأخيرة وبلغ به إلى آخر كتاب النكاح، وطبع في ثلاثة مجلدات ضخام بالقطع الكبير، فتلقّاه العلماء بالقبول، ووجدوا فيه ما يقرّ العيون ويثلج الصدور، وأصبح الكتاب معروفاً فيما بين أهل العلم موثوقاً لديهم في شبه القارة الهندية، ولكن المؤلف لم يتمكن من إكماله للظروف السياسية التي حدثت في شبه القارة.
لذلك عمل الأستاذ "محمد تقي العثماني" لإكمال هذا الشرح من حيث تركه المؤلف من كتاب الرضاع إلى آخر الكتاب.
