تتكأ المسرحية على الأوضاع السائدة زمن المماليك في مصر وتنبثق من حلمٍ يتحوّل بفعل التصديق إلى واقع.. وهي مسرحية ذات صبغةٍ تاريخية يعاد تفسيرها وفق الفكرة المسرحية للكاتب.
تنحو هذه المسرحية منحى إعادة القراءة التاريخية بشكلها الممسرح الفني، وهي لا تسعى إلى صياغة حكائية واقعية، وإنما إلى طرح قضايا وإثارة مشكلات وأسئلة هي من الراهن بمكان. حتى وإن بدا شكل الوقائع والأحداث أو أسماء الشخصيات لصيقاً بفترة تاريخية ما، لكنما المكونات النفسية والفنية للمسرحية وشخوصها تهدف إلى خدمة فكرة تجريبية شرقية تعيد قراءة التاريخ. ليس المهم هنا واقعية الربط وإنما تعميق الدراما المسرحية وتسطيحها في آنٍ بحيث إنها قد تكون عميقة من حيث تبدو سطحية، حتى وإن بدت الشخوص رموزاً معينة لخدمة مسار المسرحية فإنهم هم أيضاً أفراد لهم وقفاتهم الشخصية، وتأثيرهم على مجرى الأحداث، وهذا يعني أن المسرحية لا يجب أن تقرأ من الحدث والأزمة والعقدة دون أن تخترق القراءة الشخصية / الفرد فيها، منبهاً إلى حقيقة أن الفن ليس تدويناً تاريخياً يتخذ مرجعاً بطبيعته، وأن الفنان ليس مؤرخاً بالضرورة، غير أن الفن من خلال جانبه المبتدع يمكن الرجوع إليه بوصفه تاريخاً.. لكنما هذه المسرحية سعت إلى صك نثارات وشظايا لخدمة الراهن، راجياً أن تقرأ حسب ما تطرحه في جوفها من قضية تجري مع جريان النهر فيها..
