الطحاوي هو الإمام أبو جعفر أحمد بن محمد بن سلامة الطحاوي، والطحاوي نسبة إلى قرية بصعيد مصر، كان ثقة ثبتًا فقيهاً حافظاً، له اليد الطولي في الفقه والحديث وله تصانيف كثيرة منها "العقيدة الطحاوية" وقد لاقى هذا الكتاب مدح عدد كبير من العلماء وشرحه عدد كبير منهم أيضاً، وكان أحسن شروحه المعروفة هذا الشرح.
والعقيدة الطحاوية تمثل عقيدة السلف أحسن تمثيل، فقد أخبر الطحاوي في كتابه عما كان عليه السلف، ونقل عن "الإمام أبي حنيفة النعمان بن ثابته الكوفي"، وصاحبه "أبي يوسف يعقوب بن إبراهيم الحميري الأنصاري" ومحمد بن الحسن الشيباني رضي الله عنهم"، ما كانوا يعتقدون من أصول الدين، ويدينون به، لذا فقد كان الكتاب شاملاً حيث جاء الكلام في التوحيد وفي الصفات وفي النبوة وفي رؤية الله وفي الشفاعة كما كان للإمام الطحاوي في كتابه هذا رداً على أصحاب البدع من الحشوية والقدرية وغيرهم.
كما كان له رد على الفلاسفة والمعتزلة وكما كان له حديث مفصل في قضية خلق القرآن الكريم ومن كلام الله وفي أمور كثيرة كانت مثار جدل وخصومة بين المسلمين، وكانت في حينها مثار افتتان المسلمين وجنوحهم عن جادة الصواب فكان أن ناقش هذه الأمور راداً جميع الأمور المتنازع فيها إلى الله ورسوله( الكتاب والسنة) وقد امتازت هذه الطبعة بالفهرس الذي جمع فيه أطراف الأحاديث والآثار وبعض الألفاظ الواردة في الكتاب تسهيلاً للمراجع والباحث.
