تتناول الرواية قصة فتاة مراهقة تنحدر من أصول شركسية، اختار لها القدر أباً هو أسوأ من الحرب، إذ إنه لم يترك لها شيئاً، لا إشارات، ولا كلمات، إنه لا يقول شيئاً في أي شيء.
وهي الفتاة الجامحة غير القابلة للكبح، تبدو غريبة حتى عن نفسها، تتصرف كحالمة، حاملة عالماً قديماً لم يكن باستطاعتها تقدير نفوذه.
تبدو كالمستولى عليها من قبل يأس غابر لم يكن يأسها، بل هو متواجد في أعماق حزنها كأهوال من كآبة الأسلاف، تصرفات جدّاتها اللواتي كنّ يلجأن أحياناً للانتحار هرباً من احتجازهن أحياء وراء جدران الحريم.
عند هذه الهوية، والثقافة، والتراث الوطني، والذاكرة التي لم يصل إليها منها إلا الشذرات، كانت يشار تقاوم بنزاهة، مثيرة للعواطف بهذا التحفظ الجسدي، بهذا الانسياق الوثني المندفع فجأة من جنون الحياة.
"لها شخصية متشظّية، إنها مصابة بانفصام في الشخصية"؛ هكذا سجّل الطبيب النفساني التقرير دون التعمق أكثر فيه، دون العودة لقصص الأسرة، لتيه قبائل الرحّل، لتقلبات الحروب، لرحلة التاريخ، للوباء الجماعي للإنسانية وهي في بؤسها، للجذور والديانات والاصطلاحات اللغوية التي تختلط في السلة نفسها من فقدان المعنى…. كما لو أن معنى الحياة، شيئاً فشيئاً، يأخذ في الضياع كلياً، لكن يشار لم تنسَ، هي لا ترغب في نسيان حياتها القادمة من بعيد.
