نظراً لوجوب التعرّف إلى الكمالات المحمدية في سائر جوانب حياة النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: في بيته، وفي عبادته، ومع أهله وذريته وصحبه، وفي صحته ومرضه، حتى وفاته، ولكون همم المسلمين قد ضعفت في تشمير الهمة لمعرفة ذلك، لكونه متفرقة في المطولات من كتب الحديث، والسيرة، والشمائل، رأى المؤلف أن يقدّم ملخصاً جامعاً مانعاً عن حياة الرسول الكريم صلى الله عليه وسلم، ليكون هذا الموضع مشعلاً يهتدي به المسلمون في حياتهم ومع نسائهم وذراريهم، وخدمهم وضيفانهم، وعبادتهم، وصحتهم ومرضهم، وقد قام بتقسيم عمله إلى مقدمة وثلاثة أبواب رئيسية، يندرج تحت كل باب عدّة فصول، ومباحث، ومطالب، انتهاءً بخاتمة الكتاب، مستعرضاً حياة الرسول الكريم صلى الله عليه وسلم بكل جوانبها، مع زيادة عن البحوث التي سبقته في نوعه بوصف طريقة عيش الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم، وصفة غسله، وطهارته وصلاته، وأحواله في الزكاة والصيام وبعض التفصيل في حسن عشرته لكل من كان على تواصل به.
