هذه قائمة، أو قل معجم أو قاموس صغير، بالمصطلحات والألفاظ الأثرية والعمارية العامية، المتداولة فيما بين العاملين في المواقع والمدن الأثرية المنتشرة في أرجاء العراق ومنطقة الموصل بصورة خاصة، فخلال مزاولتي أعمال التقيبات والصيانة الأثرية حرصت على تدوين هذه الألفاظ والمصطلحات الدارجة التي سمعتها من الحفارين الأثريين (الشرقاطيين)، والعمال الفنيين، وكذلك العاملين في مهنة البناء (صيانة وحماية الأبنية الأثرية) في تلك المواقع.
ولاحظت أن البعض من هؤلاء قد حاول من غير عمد ترك إستعمال وتداول بعض هذه الألفاظ، والإستعاضة عنها بألفاظ أقرب للفصحى إن لم نقل هي الفصحى ذاتها، وسببه على ما اعتقد هو مخالطة هؤلاء للموظفين الأثريين المشرفين على هذه الأعمال في حقول التنقيب الأثرية وصيانة الأبنية والأوابد القديمة، والأخذ بها نتيجة سماعها منهم ومن ثم تداولها.
كما إن السبب الآخر والمهم هو إنتشار الوسائل الثقافية والإعلامية، كالمذياع والتلفزيون والفضائيات، والإنصات لها وما يسببه من توغل الألفاظ الفصحى في أذهان سامعيها وأنسيابها بعد ذلك على ألسنتهم تلقائياً، كذلك ركون البعض إلى التعلم في المدارس أو في مراكز محو الأمية، حيث جعلتهم نوعاً ما يتركون إستعمال العامية لا إرادياً نتيجة تكرار سماع الألفاظ الفصحى.
