نزهة الخاطر وبهجة الناظر، موضوعه تراجم القضاة وتاريخ القضاء في دمشق في عشرة قرون من الزمن، ويعكس هذا الاهتمام شغف العلامة شرف الدين بن يوسف الأنصاري بكتب التراجم والتواريخ، وهو في عمله هذا اعتمد على سلسلة من الكتب الموثوقة في موضوعه. وقد وصف الحوادث المتعلقة بشؤون القضاء وصفاً جيداً، كما لم يغفل الحديث عنت الهيكل العامل للدولة. وهو إذ يسرد تاريخ أعيان دمشق ودورهم في الحياة الاجتماعية يعطي صورة واضحة عن طبيعة المجتمع الدمشقي الذي كان هؤلاء جزءاً منه.
وهو يستمر في رصد الحوادث وتسجيلها إذ يتحدث عن الوضع الاقتصادي، وعن العناصر التي كان لها دور في حياة المجتمع الدمشقي مثل المجاذيب وهو في كل هذا أميناً ينقل بدقة ما وعاه، وقد اختط لنفسه منهجاً فريداً من نوعه من تدوين المذكرات والحوليات وتراجم الرحالة دون أن يخرج في ذلك عن أسلوب السرد البسيط والتعابير القضائية المفهومة للإنسان العادي.
وقد اتسم عمل المحقق بالدقة والتنظيم إذ يبدو الجهد الذي بذله واضحاً في القسمين إذ اجتمعت لديه ثلاث نسخ من المخطوطة اعتمد في إنجاز عمله على نسخة المكتبة الظاهرية فقارن بينها وبين المخطوطات الأخرى ثم رجع ما أمكنه ذلك إلى المصادر التي نقل عنها الأنصاري ووضع ما أثبته في حواشي المخطوطات ملحقاً، وراعى كتابة النص حرفياً كما ورد في الأصل وأشار إلى التصويبات عند وجود خطأ أو كلمات مبهمة. وعرف بالإعلام التي وردت في الكتاب على قدر الإمكان، وكذلك بالمدن والأماكن وشرح المصطلحات والألفاظ المبهمة التي تحتاج إلى ذلك.
