موضوع هذا الكتاب هو "المصطلح البدوي في التراث البلاغي والنقدي عند العرب من القرن الثاني الهجري إلى القرن الثامن الهجري، وهو موضوع يحاول إستجلاء العلاقة التي تربط المصطلح بيئته البدوية التي أحاطت بالإنسان العربي، كما يهدف إلى الكشف عن واقع هذه المصطلحات الدلالي والتطور الذي لحقها، من خلال تتبع هذه المصطلحات منذ بداية ظهور المصطلح النقدي إلى أقصى ما وصل إليه من نضج وإكتمال أو غياب وإختفاء عبر مسيرته الإصطلاحية.
ركّزت المؤلفة على المصطلحات المستمدة من البيئة البدوية؛ لأنها تمثل إحدى أخصب البيئات التي أمدت النقد القديم بعدد وفير من المصطلحات النقدية، وقد صار من المسلم به أن البيئة المكانية الجغرافية والإجتماعية لها دورها في الأدب والنقد، سواء أكان ذلك في إستحضار قريحة الشاعر في قول الشعر، أم في بناء القصيدة ولغتها وألفاظها، فلا يمكن لمبدع أن يبدع في غير بيئته التي أسهمت في تكوين ملامح شخصيته، وما كان امر أدبه ونقده على هذا النحو فإن مصطلحه لا بد أن يراعي قوانين البيئة التي اقتطع منها.
لقد شكلت هذه المصطلحات معجماً يمكن الوقوف عليه ود راسته، وقد ساعد على ذلك الإمتداد الزمني للحقبة المدروسة، وتنوع المصادر ووفرتها، فقد مكنها من صياغة معجم خاص بالمصطلح البدوي.
