المنطق ميزان العلوم ومعيارها، وهدى للعقل إذا أخطأ في الفكر، إذ أن قواعده إذا روعيت تعصم الذهن عن الخطأ في التفكير ولما كانت قواعد المنطق موجودة في العقل وبالغريزة وجد كثير من العقلاء لا يعرفون علم المنطق.
ومع هذا فقد كانت أفكارهم مستقيمة، ولم يؤثر فيها جعلهم بهذا العلم نتيجة لسلامة غرائزهم، ثم إن هذه الغرائز البشرية قد تفسد بالمؤثرات التي تحيط بها في هذه الحياة، وعندئذ تضطرب الأفكار نتيجة لتلك المؤثرات.
من أجل ذلك، كانت الحاجة الماسة إلى دراسة علم المنطق بدليل حاصلة فهو علم يحتاج إليه كل مفكر وباحث يريد أن يصل إلى علم المجهول، حيث إنه ينظم التفكير البري، بحيث يكون التفكير صحيحاً سلماً، لإكتساب المرء المعلومات التصورية التي يجعلها، والتصديقات والأحكام التي لا يعلمها.
وبناءً على ذلك، فهو قانون عام لمن أردا أن يكون تفكيره سليماً ومستقياً، فهو قانون الفيلسوف الباحث عن علل الكائنات حتى يصل إلى العلة الأولى التي ليس بعدها علة، بل هي علة كل شيء، كما أنه قانون العالم الطبيعي الذي يبحث في الحياة وخواصها، فكل قول أو حكم يلقيه الفيلسوف أو المتكلم أو الرياضي، لا يتم بدون منطق.
