يروي هذا الكتاب قصة إستثنائية لزوجين في غاية الإنسجام والتكافل في ما بينهما، على الرغم من الخلافات الصارخة التي كانت تنشب بينهما من وقت إلى آخر. لقد جمعنا حبنا لفلسطين ولأولادنا، ولحوار هادىء وسط عالم كان يبدو أحياناً مليئاً بالجنون المطبق. كنا نتشاطر حب كل إنسان بريء على وجه هذه الأرض، وحب كل الذين أحبوا أوطانهم وعائلاتهم وتطلعوا إلى تحقيق العدالة والخلاص. كانت حياتنا معاً مفعمة بالتسامح والشرف وبالعقيدة الطيبة والشهامة. هذه قصة حياتي مع أبو العباس.
كان أبو العباس واحداً من أرفع القياديين منزلة لدى ياسر عرفات، وهو الذي لطالما اقترن اسمه بعملية اختطاف السفينة أكيلي لاورو عام 1985. تلك العملية التي أشعلت أزمة دولية، خاصة أنها أدت إلى مقتل السائح الأميركي العجوز ليون كلينغوفر.
تستعيد هذه المذكرات التي سطرتها زوجة ابو العباس حقبة نضالية في تاريخ المقاومة الفلسطينية، وتقف على حقائق خطرة لقضية واجهت مفارقات مستحيلة. فمن السخرية بمكان أن يكون موت شخص واحد فقد قد استدعى قلب جميع موازين جدليات الخطأ والصواب.
ريم النمر، أرملة أبو العباس، كتبت قصة حياة زوجها كما عايشتها، وسردت حادثة الإعتداء على أكيلي لاورو التي لم تكن تعلم شيئاً عنها، إلى أن رأت منشورات تتعلق بسفينة أكيلي لاورو في شقتهما في تونس. حينها فقط أدركت أن زوجها ضالع في تلك العملية.
في ما بعد أخبر أبو العباس زوجته أن هدفه كان "تنفيذ عملية مشرّفة ضد الجيش الإسرائيلي"، حيث قال لها: "لقد أردت منهم الوصول إلى أشدود، لا الإشتباك مع المسافرين على متن السفينة".
لقد ارتبط اسم أبو العباس بتلك الجريمة حتى آخر يوم من حياته. وعندما توفي في ظروف غامضة في أحد سجون بغداد إثر اعتقاله على ايدي القوات الأميركية بعد الغزو الأميركي للعراق عام 2003، يومها كان جل ما استطاع العالم تذكره عن أبو العباس رجلاً مشلولاً يدعى ليون كلينغوفر كانت المفارقة أن أحداً لم يأبه لأن يتساءل كيف أمكن رجلاً يبدو في تمام عافيته أن يفارق الحياة على أيدي الأميركيين.
