يضم هذا الكتاب الذي بيني يدينا البحث الذي قدمه الدكتور "محمد معروف الدواليبي" إلى المؤتمر العالمي الثالث للسيرة والسنة النبوية الذي أقامته دولة قطر بين 5 و10 محرم سنة 1400هـ، الموافق في 24-29 تشرين الثاني 1979م. وفيه ألقى الضوء على موقف الإسلام من العلم وأثر الرسالة الإسلامية في الحضارة الإنسانية، مبتدئاً أولاً بمناقشة موقف الإسلام من العلم وذلك بحسب رأيه لأن الدعوة إلى العلم في الإسلام تؤلف الميزة الأولى التي امتازت بها دعوة الإسلام على غيره من الأنظمة والمنظمات والأديان التي عرفتها الإنسانية حتى اليوم.
إذ أن الإسلام هو نظام الحياة الوحيد الجديد حتى اليوم الذي أوجب طلب العلم على كل مسلم ومسلمة، وجعله من مقتضيات الإسلام، وساء كان المسلم ذكراً أو أنثى، عملاً بقوله عليه الصلاة والسلام: "طلب العلم فريضة على كل مسلم" وذلك للنهوض بمستوى الإنسان لأول مرة في التاريخ على أساس من العلم والإيمان.
ومن الأسئلة التي رد عليها البحث في رسالته هذه: ما هي "أعظم المشكلات الإنسانية" التي أقلقت مجتمعاتنا الدولية اليوم؟، وهل عجزت الأنظمة الدولية القائمة اليوم عن وضع الحلول الناجعة لهذه "المشكلات الإنسانية الأساسية" حتى بتنا في حاجة ماسة إلى "نظام جديد للحياة الإنسانية"؟، وما هو موقف نفس أصحاب هذه الأنظمة السائدة في عالم اليوم تجاه هذه الحاجة إلى نظام جديد للحياة؟، وما هي "المقاييس العلمية التقدمية لهذا النظام الجديد في مفهوم علماء هذه الأنظمة القائمة وخبرائها؟، وهل يستجيب الإسلام اليوم لهذه المقاييس التقدمية؟، وماذا كان موقف رسالة الإسلام من هذه المقاييس من قبل حينما جاء الإسلام يدعو العالم إلى تكوين الإنسان الجديد وفقاً لنظامه الجديد، ومن أجل حياة إنسانية جديدة عالمية؟.
