هذه رسالة "حقيقة الصيام" لشيخ الإسلام ابن تيمية، بعد أن أضاف إليها المحقق "زهير الشاويش" في طبعتها هذه كثيراً من مسائل ابن تيمية واختياراته. وهذه الرسالة تشهد لمؤلفها رحمه الله، بطول الباع في معرفة مذاهب العلماء، ودقة الاستنباط من الكتاب والسنة؛ ونبذ العصبية المذهبية، والتمسك بالنصوص الشرعية، مع الأمانة والدقة، حيث لا يضيع آية، ولا يهمل حديثاً، ولا يترك أثراً، وإنما يضع كل دليل حيث أمر الشارع بوضعه. وهي على صغر حجمها حلت كثيراً من المشكلات التي تعرض للصائم. حيث سهل على المتعبد القيام بهذه الشعيرة بلا حرج ولا تفريط. ومن ذلك ما يكثر السؤال عنه هذه الأيام، من صحة صيام المسافر-المريض-المعاشر أهله عمداً أو نسياناً، حكم النية وكيف تكون، أحكام الاعتكاف، ليلة القدر، المستقيئ، المحتجم، المكتمل، المستحاضة. وغير ذلك من الأحكام التي لا يجدها القارئ في الكتب المطولة.
