ولا زال مفهوم التربية الإعلامية غائباً عند الكثيرين، ويستوجب الوقوف عنده وتوضيحه، كما وإن الجدل ما زال قائماً بين التربويين والإعلاميين في الوطن العربي على مفهوم التربية الإعلامية كمصطلح لكنهم متفقون على أهميته في المنهج التربوي.
من هنا، تأتي أهمية الكتاب في العناية بالوعي الإعلامي كجزء من تكوين المواطن المستنير، إذ يؤكد الخبراء أن الشباب وخاصة الذي لم يصب حظاً كافياً من التعليم إذا كان واعياً ببيئته وملماً بأحداث الساعة من خلال إطلاعه على الوسائل الإعلامية، وقادراً على إستخدام أدوات الإتصال في التعبير عن ذاته، سيصبح مواطناً أفضل تكويناً وأكثر إلتزاماً.
كما يتناول موضوع التربية الإعلامية كمفهوم، وإشكالية العلاقة بين الإعلام والتربية وإستراتيجيات التربية الإعلامية وماهية الإعلام الرقمي، خصائصه، تقنياته في ظل الثورة الإلكترونية الحديثة التي أصابت مجال الإعلام كمفهوم، فتركت آثاراً إيجابية إلى جانب ظهور ما يسمى بالأمية الرقمية التي راح ضحيتها العديد من العاملين في وسائل الإعلام ممن أخفقوا في الإستخدام الأمثل لتلك التكنولوجيا وتوظيفها في المجال الإعلامي ومن ثم إيصالها للجمهور.
