ومهنة المعلم لها آثار واضحة في المجتمع كله، وليس على أفراد منه، لذا فهي ليست كغيرها من المهن، ذلك أن المعلم يمر عليه خلال خدمته المئات من الطلاب الذين أخذوا مواقع لهم بالمجتمع من أطباء ومهندسين وقضاة ووزراء وسياسيين... وغيرهم.
ولا شك أن المعلم هو العنصر الأساسي في العملية التربوية وهو المحرك لدوافع طلابه والمشكّل لإتجاهاتهم والمؤثر فيهم تأثيراً مباشراً كونهم ميدان عمله، لذا عليه أن يعد نفسه لتحمل المسؤولية وعظم الأمانة الملقاة على عاتقه في تربية وتنشئة الأجيال.
وإذا كانت مهنة المعلم على قدر كبير من الأهمية والخطورة في حياة الأجيال بل وحياة الأمم كونها تتعامل مع أغنى المقدرات مع بني البشر، لذا فالأمر يتطلب معلماً ناجحاً مقدراً عظم الرسالة التي يؤديها لطلابه تربية وتعليماً في جعل المهارات والمعارف التي يكسبها لطلابه خيوطاً قوية تنسج شخصياتهم ليكونوا أفراداً فاعلين في مجتمعاتهم.
حاول المؤلف أن يقدم المعلم بعض المعلومات التي قرأها له في مراجع تربوية عديدة، أنها تهمه في حياته العملية، وتسهم - ولو بقدر يسير - في نموه المهني والمعرفي والوظيفي لتحقيق مستوى أعلى في أداء رسالته السامية.
