كيف يمكن للحريات أن تكون أسيرة هو المجال الذي يدور حوله هذا الكتاب الذي بدا عنوانه "الحريات الأسيرة" أكثر جاذبية في تسليط الضوء على مشكلات الأمة العربية والإسلامية اليوم "بين إستبداد الحكم وإستغلال الدين... الأصول وطريق الخلاص".
ففي هذا العنوان الفرعي للكتاب يبدو المؤلف أ. د. محمد الحموري أبلغ تعبيراً عن الأزمنة المستحكمة التي تعاني منها المجتمعات العربية، كما تتجسد في إرادة التملك أو عقلية التيقن والقبض والتحكم.
وكما يبدو أن الكتاب يعالج موضوع الإسلام السياسي، حيث يعرض "بشكل تفصيلي لمبدأ الشورى الذي نص عليه القرآن الكريم: ما هو مضمونه، ومتى طُبّق، ومتى غُيّب، ولماذا كان هذا التغييب، ونماذج من توظيف الإسلام لخدمة السلاطين وإغتيال الحريات السياسية للتخلص من الشورى، ودور فقهاء السلاطين في ذلك، وما هو التراث السلطوي الذي ورثناه، وكيفية تزاوجه مع سلطة الدساتير، لإنتاج مولود سلطوي شاذ التكوين، وتوظيف ذلك لخدمة السلطة، والتغول على الحقوق والحريات، وماذا كان مدلول شعار الإسلام فهو الحل قبل التخلي عنه، عند بعض أصحاب الخطاب الديني، وكيف تم تبني فكرة الحاكمية التي تنطلق منها تنظيمات التطرف الجهادي، وما يترتب على ذلك من مطالبتها بإقامة الدولة الدينية أو دولة ولاية الفقيه، وأساس مبدأ الشعب وليس الشرع هو مصدر السلطة في الإسلام، ولماذا ينبغي أن يكون مطلب الجميع دولة مدنيّة إنطلاقاً من أن صحيح الإسلام ليس فيه دولة دينية، وما هو الحامل الإجتماعي للنظام السياسي لديمقراطية الشورى، وأساس محاسبة السلطة..." وغير ذلك من إضاءات يكشف عنها مؤلف الكتاب تنتهي بقراءة معمقة لإنفجار ثورات الربيع العربي وأسبابها ومآلاتها.
ويختتم بطرح سؤال هام: هل هدوء الشعوب بعد الثورات مرجعه عودة الخوف أم إستراحة محارب، وماذا ينبغي أن يعرفه الناس عن حقوقهم، وعن منهج التحذير الذي أصبحت تمارسه سلطات الحكم.
