في هذا الكتاب يحاور الصحافي غسان شربل أربعة أسماء تربط بينها "لعنة القصر": الياس الهراوي ونبيه بري ورفيق الحريري وميشال عون، إن "لعنة القصر" التي شطبت في 1982 الرئيس المنتخب بشير الجميل، ما لبثت أن اغتالت الرئيس رينيه معوض. ثم تحركت فجأة لتضرب رفيق الحريري والبلاد والتوازنات والوجود العسكري السوري في لبنان، فخرج "الحكيم" لينضوي في مهب 14 آذار، وعاد الجنرال ليصبح حليفاً لـ"حزب الله" وصديقاً غير معلن لدمشق.
"لعنة القصر" غيرت أيضاً تفسير الطائف ومصير الهراوي وجعلته رئيساً. وأسندت رئاسة البرلمان إلى نبيه بري رئيس حركة "أمل" الذي جاء من عباءة الإمام المغيب.
الحوار الذي يجريه غسان شربل مع الرؤساء الأربعة في هذا الكتاب، وكذلك حواراته السابقة مع الضباط الأربعة في "ذاكرة الاستخبارات" ليس حواراً من طرف واحد يمليه الرئيس أو الضابط إنما هي روايات واعترافات تكشف موقع المتحدث ونهجه وخياراته. وتضع مادة ما في تصرف أي باحث مثقف أو مؤرخ.
