يعد تفسير القرآن الكريم من أدق مهام التي تصدى لها وحملها كوكبة من أئمة المسلمين وعلمائهم للتيسير على عباد الله فهم كتابه، وإدراك مراميه وغاياته، والوقوف عند أوامره ونواهيه. وكان من تلك الكوكبة المباركة من أهل السنة والجماعة الإمام عبد الله بن أحمد النسفي، صاحب "مدارك التنزيل وحقائق التأويل" المعروف بتفسير النسفي، الذي بين يدينا كتابه هذا محققاً.
حيث حدد الإمام النسفي في مقدمة تفسيره المنهج الذي اتبعه فقال: قد سألني من تتعين إجابته كتاباً وسطاً في التأويلات، جامعاً لوجوه الإعراب والقراءات، متضمناً لدقائق علم البديع والإشارات، حالياً بأقاويل أهل السنة والجماعة، خالياً عن أباطيل أهل البدع والضلالة، ليس بالطويل الممل ولا بالقصير المخل.
وقد التزم الإمام النسفي بالمنهج الذي ارتضاه فجاء تفسيره جامعاً بين وجوه الإعراب بدون استطراد أو خوض بالتفاصيل، وملتزماً للقراءات السبع المتواترة مع نسبة كل قراءة إلى قارئها، ولم يكتف في بعض المواقع بالقراءات السبع بل زاد إلى تسع قراءات كما في قوله تعالى في سورة مريم: "وهزي إليك بجذع النخلة تساقط عليك رطباً جنياً" فعدد تسع قراءات لكلمة تساقط. ومن خلال اختياراته تشكلت للنسفي قراءة خاصة به.
وعند تفسيره لآيات الأحكام يعرض الإمام النسفي المذاهب الفقهية وينتصر لمذهبه الحنفي فيقول: وهو عندنا. ولكنه حين يرجح لديه رأي مخالف لمذهبه وعليه الجمهور يقول: وعليه الجنهور، أو يذكر رأي مذهب آخر ويطوي ذكر بقية المذاهب.
وفي مسائل العقيدة يشير إلى مذاهب أهل البدع والأهواء في معرض تأكيد المخالفة فيقول: وهو دليل لنا على كذا: أو يقول: خلافاً للمعتزلة... خلافاً للقدرية، ولا يتبسط بذكر آراء المخالفين مكتفياً بذكر رأي أهل السنة والجماعة.
وهو استند في تفسيره إلى القرآن الكريم والحديث الشريف والشعر العربي وأقوال الزهاج والصالحين. فقد استخدم سدس القرآن الكريم تقريباً، أكثر من ألف آية من 6236 آية، في تفسير القرآن إن لجهة المعنى وهو الغالب أو لجهة اللغة والبلاغة، كما استعان بحوالي 450 حديثاً مرفوعاً ومئات الآثار عن الصحابة والتابعين، ومئات الأقوال المنسوبة إلى الزهاد والصالحين في إطار الاستشهاد للإثبات في الغالب وليس فقط استشهاد للاستئناس.
