كان عضوا في المجمع اللغوي بالقاهرة والأردن، وفي المجمع الهندي، وفي الجمعية اللغوية الفرنسية.
Book Description
بين طيات هذا الكتاب مباحث لغوية تتصل باللغتين السريانية والعربية، عرض فيها المؤلف لمواد تاريخية تتصل بهاتين اللغتين. وفيها خلص إلى نتيجتين مؤداهما أولاً: ان بين السريانية والعربية صلاة تاريخية تنتج عن قرابة لغوية تتأتى من أنهما يرجعان إلى أصل واحد هذا الصل نجد آثارة في جملة لغات أخرى عرضها التاريخ القديم وكان لها مهدني جهة من جهات بلادنا العربية القسيمة، ثانياً: إن القرابة بين العربية والسريانية أوضح ما تكون بين هاتين اللغتين منها بين العربية وأية لغة أخرى من جملة هذه اللغات القديمة. ولعل ذلك راجع إلى أن السريانية عاشت العربية ونعمت في ظلها، وإن العربية قد قامت هذه اللغة وجملة اللغات الأخرى نضخاً في أبنيتها وإحكاماً في تركيبها، وإصابة دقائق المعنى وإيجازاً وإسهاباً بما يقتضيه المقام، وجماع هذا هوالبلاغة العربية، وليس أدل على هذا نزول الكتاب العزيز، وهو مصدر البلاغة بهذه اللغة العالية.
أما عناوين المباحث فجاءت كما يلي: في الثقافة السريانية، لهجات اللغة الآرامية، تعليق على مقال "عربي، آرامي، عبري"، السريانية بين فصيح العامية وفصيح العربية، كتاب "فاعول" بين السريانية والعربية. من العربية الخاصة "النصرانية" مستفادة من "المجدل"، شملوفا، يوحنا بن ترسي، مع كتاب "الديارات" للشابشتي، قصيدة أبي القاسم مدرك بن محمد الشيباني.
