موضوع هذا الكتاب، هو النظرية في التدريس: طرقه المختلفة، وقد وضعته الدكتورة أفنان دروزة، ليعين المعلمين والمعلمات في أداء رسالتهم التربوية المقدسة، والكتاب يعالج مجموعة واسعة متنوعة من طرائق التدريس، المشفوعة بالأمثلة التوضيحية، التي تفيد كل من يضطلع بمهنة التربية والتعليم. استخرجتها المؤلفة من مصادر حديثة بأسلوب مهني متخصص لفائدة كل من الدارسين والعاملين الممارسين لمهنة التربية والتعليم.
ولتغطي الباحثة كافة أجزاء دراستها قامت بتقسيم الدراسة إلى ثمانية فصول:عرضت في الأول لمعنى النظرية في التدريس، ولمجالاتها، وعناصرها، وأهميتها، والفرق بينها وبين مفاهيم تربوية أخرى. مثل نظرية التعلم، والتربية المقصودة، والتربية غير المقصودة، والبرنامج التربوي. في حين تناولت في الفصل الثاني بالشرح والتوضيح معنى الأهداف التربوية وكيفية صياغتها موردة الأمثلة عليها. أما الفصل الثالث فخصصته للتعريف بمعنى محتوى المادة الدراسية والأجزاء التي تتكون منها، والعلاقة التي تربط بينها، وماذا على المعلم أن يفعله لتحليل هذا المحتوى إلى عناصره، وتنظيمه بطريقة تساعد المتعلم على التعلم الهادف.
وفي الفصل الرابع عرضت نماذج ونظريات استخدمت في تنظيم محتوى المادة الدراسية، والبرامج التعليمية عامة. وقد حاولت توظيف هذه النظريات في مجال التدريس عامة. أما الفصل الخامس، فتناولت أهم طرق التدريس المتبعة في المدارس، مبينة حسنات وسلبيات كل طريقة. أما في الفصل السادس فتحدثت من الإنترنت كإستراتيجية تعليمية مبينة أهميتها وفائدتها في العملية التعليمية من جانب دور المعلم فيها: ولكي تحقق الأهداف السابقة.
رأت الباحثة أن تفرد فصلاً لعملية التقييم المدرسي فكان الفصل السادس كإجراء أخيراً في العملية التعليمية التعلمية. أما الفصل السابع والثامن والأخير من هذا الكتاب فضمنته الباحثة اقتراحاً نموذجياً لمفاهيم ومبادئ النظرية في التدريس، وهدفها في هذا الاقتراح هو دعوة المعلمين أينما كانوا إلى جعل عملية التدريس عملية فعالة لها معنى مرتكز على الجانب العملي التطبيقي أكثر من الجانب النظري.
