نقدم هنا عشرة أعمال مسرحية لليف تولستوي، تُجْمَع لأول مرة في مجلد واحد لتكون الأعمال المسرحية الكاملة للكاتب الكبير، ولا يجهل أحد أن أفضل ما في موهبة تولستوي إنما نجده في رواياته الكبرى وفي بعض قصصه.
بيد أن مؤلف آنا كارينين كان يُبدي إهتماماً شديداً بالمسرح، فقد قرأ عدداً كبيراً من الأعمال المسرحية القديمة والمعاصرة، ولم يكن يكره أن يُجرِّب أحياناً موهبته في هذا الميدان.
إلا أن المؤكد، مع ذلك، أن الأعمال التي أنتجها شديدة التباين، وأن مُعظمها تنقصه النبرة، النكهة، ونحن نجد بينها مسرحيات تهذيبية، وملهاة كُتِبت على عجل: "العَدَمي" - ويسرنا أن نقدم لها ترجمة فرنسية لم تنشر من قبل - وأيضاً بعض المسرحيات التي لا تخلو من عمق، والتي يُعاود فيها تولستوي، على كل حال، نقده للمجتمع الراقي بلهجة لاذعة.
وأخيراً فإن هذه المسرحيات تعكس، بدرجات شتى، بعض اللحظات من حياة تولستوي، تعكس أهواءه، وعذاباته، ووساوسه، وبكلمة واحدة: كل ما كان يبتعث فيه البحث العنيد عن الحقيقة والحب.
