إن حرف "القاف" المميَّز؛ اختاره الله تعالى ليكون ضمن أولى كلمات آخر كتب السماء (القرآن الكريم)، فكان مُسْتَهَلُّها به: ﴿ اقْرَأْ ﴾، وكرَّره فيها ست مرات، وبه استفتح المفصَّل من القرآن الكريم، وإعتباراً بالحضور القوي الذي يُسجِّله هذا الصوت في اللسان العربي، نظراً إلى ما يمتلكه من خصائص صوتية، ومعنوية، كانت هذه الدراسة، وخصوصاً أنَّ الظواهر اللغوية أهمها متعلَّقُه إما الصوت وإما الدلالة.
وعلى الرغم من كون المعاني سابقة على التصويت والكتابة إلا أن الباحث قد ارتأى أن يضم مباحث الدلالة إلى مباحث الرسم والنقط في فصل واحد، وأفرد الصوت بفصل خاص، تناول فيه جوانبه الفونتيكية (مخرج صوت القاف، وصفاته، وكيفية إنتاجه)، ومثيلاتها الفونولوجية (ظاهرة الإبدال، وظاهرة الإدغام، على وجه الخصوص).
