لقيت دواوين السنة وكتب الحديث عناية فاقت العادة من طرف علماء الأمة بالشرح والاختصار وغير ذلك، ومن هذه الكتب النافعة "الترغيب والترهيب من الحديث الشريف" للإمام الحافظ زكي الدين عبد العظيم بن عبد القوي المنذري (ت656هـ) وهو كتاب صغير الحجم غزير العلم جمع ما تفرق في غيره من الكتب مقتصراً فيه على ما ورد صريحاً في الترغيب والترهيب مرتباً على الأبواب الفقهية يحتاج إليه كل راغب في الآخرة مقل من الدنيا.
فلما كان هذا الكتاب على هذا الوصف المشرف اختصره وهذبه العلامة المحقق السيد علوي بن السيد عباس المالكي الحسني (ت1391هـ) أحد علماء الحرم المكي تقريباً له من طلبة العلم وتحفيزاً لهممهم التي أصحبت تميل إلى الاختصار وتنفر من التطويل.
وقد حققه وعلق عليه السيد محمد بن علوي بن عباس المالكي الحسني إحياء لتراث أبيه وسداً للفراغ الذي تعرفه المكتبة الإسلامية في مثل هذه الموضوعات.
