"بيير بنوا" (1962 – 1886) كاتب رومانسي فرنسي ومؤلف "غانية أطلنطا" التي جعلته أحد رواد روايات اللهو..
حصل على ليسانس الحقوق من "مونبليه" وبدأ عمله في وظيفة حكومية بـ"باريس". مع نهاية الحرب العالمية الأولى حققت روايتاه الأوليان "كوينجسمارك 1918 و"غانية أطلنطا" نجاحا مبهراً مما جعله أستاذ رواية اللهو. كتب سلسلة عظيمة من الروايات المسلسلة.
إن جاذبية عمله ترجع إلى شخصياته (التقليدية) وبصفة خاصة إلى إحساسه بالحبكة، وميله إلى المواقف الغربية التي تثير لدى القارئ الإحساس بالاستكشاف الحر والمطلق. هذا الاجتماعي المغرم بالجغرافيا أحب الترحال ونصب منضدة عمله في غرف الفنادق أو كبائن البواخر.
تقع الأحداث في صحراء "الجزائر" في عام 1896، حيث يخول إلى الضابط "أندريه دي سانت أفييه" التحقيق في الاختفاء الغامض لضباط آخرين وخبراء قد اختفوا في هذه الصحراء. وخلال مهمته في الصحراء مع رفيقه الراهب اللاترابي (راهب ينتمي إلى الدير اللاترابي وهو يمنع عن الكلام) "جين مورانج"، ينقذ "أندريه" حياة محارب يعمل سراً كقواد لدى الملكة "أنتينيا".
وهناك يغشى عليهما ثم يفيقان ليجدا نفسيهما في "أطلنطا" –قصر ملكي مخفي داخل الجبل ويطل على واحة نخيل غناء، وفي الوقت نفسه محاط بجبال "هوجار" وعرة التضاريس.
