"سأل الشاعر أدونيس صديقه الشاعر أدونيس: بماذا تتنبأ يا صديقي، فأجابه: قلعة الفكر المخبّا (قالت الأرض) بماذا يا صديقي تتنبأ، قد تخرصت، تدبّرت، تأملت رزايا الدهر، فاقرأ رحلة الأيام، إنّا ما قرأنا الضيم إلا حين أدمى. إركب البرق إلى النجم، وهيّئ خيمة الشمس وخذنا، قد تعبنا والرضى فينا تأبّى، الرؤى خيلك فأطلقها لترتاد الثواني والجبالُ الصخرُ من غصن المدى فاقطف لنا ورداً عربياً وأبّا، هل يعود المبتدا والمنتهى ومضاً إلى الفكر الذي قد علم الأجيال بالحق وربى، ولد الرعب أجل، وتمادى الهول يا للعصر إن التيه لبى. أتنبأ يا صديقي أن عصراً سوف يأتي يترك الأوطان نهبا. يا صديقي ربما قبل رحيل العمر، إني أتنبا سوف لا نغدو سنا ضوع المنى، إن لم نكن عبداً وربا".
في معانيه انسيابات واسترسالات تأخذ القارئ إلى عالم يطلب عنده الوقوف والتأمل، وفي عباراته موسيقى تتسرب بلطف إلى النفس وتشيع فيها جواً تتردد في أنحائه وبعذوبة، مفرداته وكلماته دون توقف.
