وصف الله سبحانه وتعالى نفسه بما أهل له لكن العقول القاصرة عن إدراك كنه الحق، قصرت همتها عن إدراك حقيقية صفاته وأسمائه فأولت وذهبت مذاهب شتى وحاد أصحابها عن الطريق القويم، وصفاته تبارك وتعالى قديمة بقدم ذاته، وأفضل طريقة لمعرفتها هو التفكير في ملكوته وفي عظيم صنعه جل وعلا علواً كبيراً.
وإن المؤلف يقدم هنا خلاصة بحث مطول أجراه عن موضوع (أسماء الله وصفاته) وهو حصيلة بحث واستقصاء في آيات القرآن الكريم وكتب الفقهاء المرموقين كصدر المتألهين والقاضي سعيد القمي، والسهروني. وقد توصل المؤلف إلى أن علم الأسماء علم شريف ومعرفة لطيفة ودقيقة وقد خص الله تعالى به الإنسان دون غيره، وهو في الحقيقة الفصل المميز للإنسان.
كما يعرض في كتابه إلى النزاع المحتدم بين الفلاسفة والعرفاء من جهة وبين أهل العقل والنقل من جهة ثانية في موضوع العلاقة بين الإدراك الحصولية وعالم الحضور ويشير المؤلف في ثنايا الكتاب إلى أن الخلاف بين المتكلمين بشأن مسألة أسماء البارئ تعالى قد تجاوزت مرحلة اللفظ والدلالة وكيفية الوضع وامتدت إلى التغاير أو العينية بين الاسم والمسمى.
