كانْ يا ما كانْ في قَديمِ الزَّمانِ صَيّادٌ فَقيرٌ لَهُ سَبْعُ بَناتٍ؛ كانَتْ أرْبَعٌ مِنْهُنَّ مُتَزَوِّجاتٍ وَثَلاثٌ يَعِشْنَ مَعَهُ عيشَةً مُتَواضِعَةً جِدّاً.
كانَتِ الأيّامُ تَمُرُّ عَسيرَةً عَلى هذا الصَّيّادِ المِسْكينِ، إذْ أنَّ القَليلَ الذَّي يأتيه مِنَ البَحْرِ لا يُعينُهُ عَلى تَوْفيرِ رِزْقٍ لِبَناتِهِ وَتَلْبِيَةِ طَلباتِهِنَّ.
