في الشارع المظلم، في مقرّ العمل، وحتّى في المنزل في بعض الحالات، تضطرّ المرأة أحيانًا إلى أن تحمي نفسها. فالنساء، بشكل عامّ، معرّضات لتحرّشٍ معدّلاته في ارتفاع مضطرد، ولعمليّات نشلٍ أصبح مقترفوها يتفنّنون في أشكالها وغالبًا ما تفضي إلى إصابات جسديّة، ولعنف أسريّ يحطّم لا أجساد الكثيرات فحسب بل أرواحهنّ.
في أحسن الأحوال، وإن لم تتعرّض المرأة لأيٍّ من ضروب الاعتداء الكثيرة، يظلّ من المفيد أن تدرك أنّ بإمكانها أن تحمي نفسها. واليوم، إذا ما اتّبعت بعض الإرشادات السهلة، المذكورة تفصيلًا والمزوّدة صورًا إيضاحيّة في هذا الكتاب، ستتعلّم أن تقول «لا» وأن تعنيها، بدل أن تتحوّل فريسةً سهلة. فمن شأن ذلك أن يردع المعتدين ويعزّز ثقتها بنفسها.
