أنا لميعة بنت عباس بن عمارة بن مرّان، عشت في بيت جدي لأمي الكَنزبرا المندائي الشيخ جودة الشيخ داموك.
أكتب ما شاهدته بعيني، وما قمت به فعلا من طقوس وعادات كانت سائدة في بيئتي بالنسبة للطعام، وأدوّن المعلومات التي أعرفها ولا يعرفها حتى أبنائي، لأنهم ولدوا ونشأوا بعد الحرب العالمية الثانية.
وأكتب عن الطعام عند الصابئة المندائية، لأنه بطقوسه القديمة، وتحليله، وتحريمه، بدأ يختفي من البيوت الحديثة، طعامهم الذي له علاقة كبيرة بأشكالهم، وسلامة أجسادهم، وطول أعمارهم.
لقد عاش المندائيون لغزا يغري بشتى الظنون، لشدة تكتمهم على دينهم. ومن كثرة ما عانوا من الاضطهاد والظروف العصيبة التي مروا بها، لعل من العجيب أن تبقى منهم بقية تعيش حتى الآن.
إن من يشاهد ممارسات هذه الطائفة في التعميد والزواج، والدفن، يشعر أن الزمان ما زال طفلاً، وإنه يعيش مع المندائيين في عصور قديمة جداً.
