يعتبر هذا الكتاب مدخلاً عربياً مهماً إلى علم البصريات الموجية إذ يحاول في مجمله عرض المصادر الضوئية وقياساتها وطرق الكشف عنها والوحدات المستخدمة في هذه القياسات والنظرية الموجية والأجهزة البصرية ويغطي بعض الجوانب النظرية لسبرها مثل الإستقطاب وكذلك ظاهرة الكهربي - بصري بالإضافة إلى الليزرات، حيث بلغت البصريات بفروعها المختلفة في النصف الأخير من القرن الماضي تقدماً سريعاً بسبب إكتشاف الليزر ودخوله في فروع علمية وهندسية مختلفة مثل البصريات اللاخطية والإتصالات الضوئية، وكذلك التصوير المجسم.
أن مسايرة هذا التقدم يحتاج مراجع بلغة عربية، وهذا الكتاب المتواضع أُلف لتغطية مفردات البصريات الموجية بما تتمشى ومناهج قسم الفيزياء بكلية العلوم، جامعة الفاتح ويمكن أن يواكب متطلبات كلية الهندسة قسم الإتصالات الضوئية وكذلك المعاهد التقنية العليا ومرجعاً مفيداً يلبي نهم من له إهتمامات في مجال البصريات عموماً.
