قليلة هي المصادر التي تتحدث عن نشأة الكتابة وبالأخص الخط العربي، فما تشير إليه المصادر التراثية لا يتعدى كونه روايات رواها البلاذري وابن عباس والقلقشندي وابن النديم و... من هنا تأتي أهمية كتاب (نشأة الكتابة في اللغتين السريانية والعربية).
يتناول المؤلف في كتابه هذا نظريات نشأة اللغة وتقسيماتها بإقتضاب، ثم يتناول نشأة اللغة والكتابة الآرامية وأهم لهجاتها وشواهدها، وكيف تفرع من هذه اللهجات الخطّان السرياني والعربي، ومن ثم يتناول التناظر بين هاتين اللغتين من حيث اللفظ ورسم الحرف والروادف وإستعمال التنقيط والحركات، وإلى أي من اللهجات الآرامية يميل الخط بعد أن يجري مقارنة بين الحرف العربي والحرف السرياني مع الخطوط المتبعة في الآرامية (الخط الأورهاي والتدمري والنبطي والحضري)، ومن ثم المسند اليمني معتمداً على النقوش والمخطوطات القديمة ورسم الأحرف.
