يتعلق هذا البحث بأخلاقيات المهنة أو آداب المهنة أو مدونة السلوك، وهي عبارة عن معايير وسلوكيات عمل المحامين أمام السلطة القضائية وعلاقاتهم مع جمهور المستفيدين من خدماتهم، وكذلك علاقاتهم مع زملائهم.
إذ يتوجب على المحامي بادئ ذي بدء إحترام قواعد التشريعات التي تسنها الدولة إضافة إلى التشريع الذي ينظم مهنته، فيتطلب منه الأمر أقصى درجات النزاهة لتقديم الخدمة السليمة ونيل ثقة الجمهور، فلا يجوز أن يستخدم قدراته ومهاراته بطريقة غير سليمة ذلك أن مهنة المحاماة تتطلب الأمانة والثقة بالإعتماد على معايير السلوك الأخلاقي المحمود.
ومن ثم فإن أخلاقيات المهنة تهدف إلى تحديد معايير السلوك والأخلاق المرغوبة والمتوقعة من المحامي، وكذلك الترويج للمعايير المهنية وأخلاقيات السلوك بحيث تصبح هذه المعايير ثقافة يفهمها الجميع، فالسلوك المهني للمحامي يجب أن يتسم بالموضوعية ولا يترك للإجتهاد الشخصي لكل محامي.
وبهذا تبدو أهمية هذا البحث بإعتباره يسعى إلى تعميم وتطبيق الأخلاقيات المهنية على جميع المحامين.
