ضمن الله تعالى بقاء طائفة من هذه الأمة ظاهرين على الحق لا يضرهم من خذلهم حتى يأتي أمر الله وهم على ذلك، وجعل السبب في بقائهم بقاء علمائهم، وأظهر في كل طبقة من فقهائها أئمة يقتدى بهم، وجعل في سلف هذه الأمة أئمة من الأعلام مهّد بهم قواعد الإسلام وأوضح بهم مشكلات الأحكام، اتفاقهم حجة قاطعة واختلافهم رحمة واسعة. ومن هؤلاء الأعلام الذين حفظوا هذا الدين وذادوا عن حياضه، الإمام أحمد بن حنبل والذي يعتبر كتابه المسند بحق ديوان الإسلام وأكبر مسانيد الحديث. ولقد ظهرت عناية العلماء بالمسند فيما صنفوه في رواته ورجاله وما وضعوه من دراسات حول مكانته وشرط مصنفه. ثم برز من العلماء المتأخرين الإمام أبو الحسن السندي فشرح المسند شرحاً أبان فيه عن وجوه الإعراب، وضبط المشكل من المفردات وأزال الاضطراب، وأوضح المبهم وقطع الارتياب، وأفصح عن وجوه الخلاف في المسائل الفقهية وأظهر الصواب، فجاء شرحاً كما أمله المؤملون. يعد السندي أول من تكلم على مسند الإمام أحمد بالضبط والتبيين والاستدلال والتعريف برجال الأسانيد وتراجم الصحابة، ومن هنا برزت أهمية الحاشية. وقد قام المحقق بخدمة هذا الكتاب وفق الخطة الآتية: ـ قدم للكتاب بفصلين: الأول: ترجم فيه للمؤلف ترجمة موسعة. الثاني: خصصه لدراسة الكتاب، من حيث تحقيق اسمه وصحة نسبته إلى المؤلف، ومنهج المؤلف وموارده فيه، وأهميته ومزاياه. ـ أورد نص الكتاب كاملاً محققاً ومخرجاً إخراجاً علمياً وافياً. ـ أعد فهارس علمية عامة للكتاب.
