هذا كتاب المقنع في شرح مختصر الخرقي، للإمام الحافظ، المحدث الفقيه، اللغوي أبي الحسن بن أحمد بن عبد الله بن البنّا، البغدادي الحنبلي، سلك فيه سلكاً وسطاً ليس بالطويل الممل، ولا بالقصير المخل. فمصنفه يرى هذا الكتاب، كتاباً مختصراً، ومع ذلك يراه مقنعاً بما فيه الكفاية ويعدُّ هذا الكتاب بأجزائه الأربعة، من الكتب الأصول في المذهب، نظراً لتقدم وفاة مصنفه. وأما منهج البنّا في شرحه لمختصر الخرقي فقد كان على هذا الشكل: يذكر اسم الباب، ويقدم أحياناً قليلة، بمقدمة قصيرة قبل أن يبدأ بشرح المختصر، يورد كلام الخرقي بنصه ثم يذكر أقوال المخالفين من العلماء، سواء كانوا من أصحاب المذهب أو من غيرهم، من فقهاء الأمصار، من التابعين وتابعيهم، ومن تابعهم، وقد يهمل أقوالهم في بعض المسائل، ثم يستدل بالمنقول في كل مسألة يوردها، فإن لم يجد، استدل بالمعقول، وهو يكثر من إيراد الروايات المروية عن الإمام أحمد، ولا يسمى الناقل عنه إلا في القليل النادر، ويذكر كثيراً بعض المسائل التي لم يذكرها الخرقي في مختصره وذلك عند نهاية كل باب، ويسمى ذلك فصلاً وقد يذكر فصولاً بعد أخذ المسائل وقبل نهاية الباب. وقد اختاره المحقق ليكون رسالة دكتوراه وقد نهج في عمله منهجاً علمياً بما يتوافق وأصول التحقيق.
