تسعى هذه الدراسة إلى طرح أسئلة حول "إنتاج النص الأدبي" عموماً، والنص الرحلي خصوصاً، والعوامل الثانوية وراءه، ووسائل إشتغاله ومادته، من خلال علم من أعلام الرحلة العربية، أحمد بن فَضلان.
يطمح هذا البحث أن يكون جديداً على المستوى المنهجي، بمنظور بعض المناهج النقدية المعاصرة، مع التأكيد على مدى قدرة بعض المفاهيم والتصورات الحديثة كمفهوم: النسق، النموذج، الإنتاج على إبراز بعض الجوانب النفية في أدبنا العربي، فأردنا أن نبين كيف تَوَلد هذا الأدب؟ وما هي ملابساته؟ لأنه، في حدود ما نعلم، لم يتم تناول الرحلة وفق الطرح المنهجي الذي اخترناه.
