لم يَعُدِ التصوّف تياراً من بين تياراتٍ أخرى تتقاسم السّاحة الفكرية والثقافية؛ بل أضحى التيار الرئيس، والموَجِّه للعقليّة والذهنيّة، سواء في التصوف الشعبي أم في التصوف العالم. لهذا بات من الواجب والمفروض دراسة هذه المدوّنة الصوفية دراسةً نقديّةً تحليليّةً، تكشفُ عن آليّاتها المُضمَرة، وبُناها المستترة، وتُعَرّي أفعالها من الخوارق، والكرامات.
درس الكتاب الخطابَ المنقبيّ، وهو خطاب كرامات بالدرجة الأولى، ويُعدُّ ضرباً أساسياً من ضروب الكتابةِ الصوفية في أشكالها المختلفة. كما اطّلع على عدد من القراءات التي تقدّم مداخل منهجيّةً، ونماذج تفسيريّةً لدراسة خطاب المناقب من زوايا مختلفة.
مع أنّ سِيَرَ الأولياء تعيد إنتاج السّيرة النبويّة، باعتبارها الأصل المُوجِّه للسّيَر كافةً في التراث والتاريخ الإسلامي. ولكن تبيّن ضعف منهجيّة أسانيد أخبار الكرامات والمناقب، مقارنة بأسانيد المحدثين. فالكرامات لم تخرقِ القانونَ الطبيعي، والمنطق العقلي فحسب؛ بل خرقت قواعد الحسّ السليم، ومبادئ الأخلاق الكلية المتفق عليها عند العقلاء.
هل استطاع الكتاب إبراز خصائص هذا الخطاب المنقبي؟ هل وُفّق في كشف بنيته اللاتاريخيّة، وطبيعته النمطيّة؟ كيف رصد مظاهر مخالفة هذا الخطاب لمنطقي العقل والتاريخ؟ أَفتحَ آفاقاً جديدةً في تحليلِ الخطاب المنقبي، أم ظلَّ حبيس أنفاق القراءات التقليدية؟ هل كان الحصاد في مستوى الجهد والعناء؟ قراءة الكتاب تُغنِي عن السؤال.
